Organic Coffee vs Conventional Coffee
Coffee have different flavors, origins, and aromas, but their difference is definitely striking before it reaches the cup. It’s what you call the difference between organic and conventional coffee. Coffee is considered as one of the most agricultural products that is chemically treated. So, imagine how many years will you digest artificial herbicides and pesticides that may affect your health. In the past years, the farming method has been developed for maximizing the production, but commonly at the expense of environmental and human health. The result is that the non-organic or conventional coffee is the one that is mostly used by numbers of consumers. So, what could be the difference between organic and conventional coffee?
As what you have known, conventional coffees are the most chemically treated products on the planet. It covers synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides. With that, the environment is not just the only one that suffers from it, but also the people who are living in it. On the other hand, organic coffee has no chemicals or synthetic fertilizers that are used during their growth and production. The coffees are grown with just organic fertilizers such as chicken manure, coffee pulp, and compost. These organic farms can also combat the climate change through the emission of lesser carbon compared to chemical farms. Additionally, organic coffee beans can be richer with healthful antioxidants as well as more people may even taste their difference.
Second, conventional coffee is hybrid developed for their flourishment under the sun. Naturally, coffee prefers the shades, but crop grown on thick forests is much difficult to harvest and can’t be planted densely. When the rain comes, the lack for cover could mean that there will be an increased water runoff. The soil may be washed away and natural nutrients may go with it. The rainwater can carry away not just only the soil, but also the chemicals which are used for treating them, and both will end up in the local water supply.
Most organic coffees are being grown in a natural way, having shades of lush forest that may also provide the home for animals and wild plants, and sustains soil fertility as well as to keep the unique ecosystem alive. Forest farms are also much resilient and more equipped for handling unusual weather pattern, which makes them safer investments.
Though conventional coffee is very popular in the market, organic coffee also increases its demand for those people who wanted to drink coffee that can make them feel good. Well, it will still depend on the person’s taste, whether he wanted something more natural or something that is not purely organic.
